Our youth mentor programs can be delivered specifically to assist in achieving the goals of the NDIS plans that are in place
To make sure we get enough time with your child, sessions will be offered at a minimum of 3 hours with travel by negotiation, depending on how far our Mentor will be required to travel for the session.
These sessions will generally include 1 hour of exercise, 1 hour of mentoring and the final hour completing a productive task i.e, washing parents cars, gardening, lawn mowing, groceries, or whatever the parent may see fit. This is very flexible between the mentor and parent for your child’s development.
Sessions are preferred weekly or fortnightly as less frequently seems to be of no benefit to the child.
Note: Female staff will only Mentor females / Male staff will only mentor males.
Our mentors are dedicated to the health and safety of your family. We are therefore committed to practicing social distancing and adhereing to relevant guidelines released by local and federal governments. This has not impacted our ability to deliver meaningful sessions with our mentees.
The below is an example of the sort of plan we can provide however the ideas and outcomes are endless depending on the participant, mentor and locality available.
Luke is a 15 year old participant who lacks self esteem. His parents have booked him in for 6 hours a week 1-on-1 mentoring which will be split into 2 x 3 hours sessions. One on a Monday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm and two on Thursday from 12 – 3pm (during his school sports time).
Dave, the mentor, meets with Luke’s parents and discusses suitable activities to help boost his confidence and make sure he enjoys the sessions. Luke is keen on getting fit, enjoys fishing and wants to go to the gym but feels intimidated.
On Mondays Dave takes Luke fishing for a couple of hours and they finish with a 30-minute bush walk where he can mentor and assist Luke with his self confidence in a comfortable environment with no distractions and out in nature as per Luke’s parents instructions.
On Thursdays, Dave assists Luke with his resume and drives him around handing out his resume to local stores to help him find a job, whilst also providing guidance on how to conduct himself. He then takes Luke to the gym and trains with him giving him tips on exercise and nutrition while making him feel comfortable and confident about himself.
On our Junior Leader Program, we place a huge importance on physical health and wellbeing. Being active has a plethora of physical and mental benefits, but we understand that sometimes it's difficult to keep this great routine going. Our one-on-one sessions can be designed to get your child back on track.
Talking to your closest family or friends can be difficult and we find that many of the break-through conversations we have on the Junior Leader Program are born off the back of mentors being open with them about their own experiences. One-on-one mentor sessions allow for a more personalised conversation in an environment that your child feels comfortable.
As adults, we sometimes take the ability to complete simple life skills for granted and forget that children often need to be taught some basics. Our team is equipped to mentor your child through tasks like shopping, paying bills or sending mail. For something specific, simply ask us.
Goals keep us accountable to ourselves and the things we want to achieve in life. Our mentors can help your child set goals and help to keep them accountable and on their way to achieving them.
Gaining employment is often daunting for a teenager, especially if they are lacking in confidence. Our mentors can help instil confidence, make a plan, help your child write their resume or cover letter and even prep them and their wardrobe for their first interview.
By having regular sessions with one of our mentors, we can help provide some focus for your child, be it on their behaviour, their goals or their health, focus is key to them building the skills that they will call upon throughout their entire lives.
